SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – June 11th & 12th 6 year old teammates William Levesque and Tristan Dufour attended Sault Ste Marie’s  John Rhodes Community Centre to participate in the Chevrolet Safe & Fun Hockey Program with Canadian hockey legend Bobby Orr.  The pair of hockey stars from Dubreuilville’s Bobcats had been specially chosen to attend the camp along with their Coach Stephen Dufour.

Chevrolet together with it’s celebrity spokespeople Bobby Orr, Mike Bossy and Cassie Campbell, and with the help of Hockey Canada, developed the program focused on  to the beginning hockey family helping to educate the Safe & Fun Hockey Program values both on and off the ice. The 2 day program included a parents and coaches seminar with Orr who discussed the values in developing a positive attitude towards healthy competition, cooperative teamwork, fair play and grace under pressure. This seminar is part of the program’s design to educate all involved in the game about Respect and Responsibility in the game. Afterwards there was an autograph session with Orr, of course it goes without saying that parents and coaches were as excited about this as were the children.

Orr and Levesque

Just as the future of Hockey Canada lies with our youth, the future of our youth lies in the hands of hockey parents. Chevrolet and Hockey Canada understand the important part parents play in helping beginning hockey players to develop respectful attitudes. By helping to educate parents, it is the hope of Chevrolet and Hockey Canada that each parent may become a Chevrolet Safe & Fun Hockey ambassador for the greatest game in the world!

Day 2, players were divided into three groups of 33 girls and boys from 5 to 8 years of age.  The groups each took to the ice for two 1-hour sessions followed by lunch before participating in two more 1-hour sessions, this time off ice.  There was also a 1-hour classroom session for parents during this time.
