3 Motor Vehicle Collisions Investigated

NIPIGON, ON – During the weekend of June 18th to June 20th, 2010 Nipigon/Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 27 calls for service and issued numerous Provincial Offence Notices.  Police investigated three motor vehicle collisions and conducted three R.I.D.E. checks.

On June 18th at approximately 8:45pm a Nipigon OPP officer investigated the driver of a motor vehicle who was traveling east bound on Hwy. 17, Township of Killraine.  During the investigation the officer located and seized a small quantity of drugs.  The 25 year old male driver of Blandford, Quebec was charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The male is to appear in Schreiber court on September 29th, 2010 to answer to these charges.

On June 18th t 8:30ppm Schreiber OPP investigated a motor vehicle collision at Hwy 17 west of Schreiber, Township of Killraine.  A west bound traveling mini van collided with a moose that entered the road way from the North side ditch.  The ambulance attended and the 33 year old female passenger was treated for non life threatening injuries at the scene.  The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Nipigon OPP are currently investigating the theft of a boat motor from the Black Sturgeon River area.  On June 20th at 9:40am the owner of a Yamaha motor reported to police that the property was removed from his boat where it had been secured.  If you have any information to assist police with this investigation, contact the Nipigon OPP at 1-807-887-2637 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
