Valerie Tymryk explains that the MDCC was originally registered federally rendering by-laws governed by the Board of Trades Act.

MARATHON, ON – Tuesday, September 14th, executive and members of the Marathon and District  Chamber of Commerce met for a scheduled general meeting, their first since breaking for summer. Approximately a dozen members were in attendance to hear from Valerie Tymryk and Traci Bryar in regards to proposed updates that were to be made to the by-laws which were originally adopted in 1962.

The pair discovered, while researching Chamber of Commerce by-laws, that the MDCC was in fact registered federally, falling under the legislation of the Boards of Trade Act; under further review it was discovered that opportunity for simplification and/or personalization of the by-laws was limited.

A copy of the amended by-laws was emailed to all members. Members are encouraged to review them as the changes will be voted on in two weeks time at a general meeting, Wednesday September 29, 7 PM at the Bowling Alley – all members are asked to attend.

Discussion of new events which could be hosted by the Chamber was also heard at Tuesday’s meeting; it was decided that social events could benefit both current and potential members.  Two such events have been scheduled with 4 persons coming forward to sit on an organizing committee for age of majority socials to be held at the Marathon Curling Club, Friday, October 22nd and Friday, November 26th.  More specific details will be disclosed soon, watch OntarioNewsNorth.com for details of these.

The next regular Chamber meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 13th at 7pm – location to be announced.
