FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION NEAR MARATHON

MARATHON, ON –On February 20, 2011 at 10:25am the Marathon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision that occurred approximately 3km East Marathon on Highway 17.

A tractor trailer travelling East bound on Highway 17, lost control crossing into the West bound lane colliding with a West bound motor vehicle, and rolling onto its side blocking all three lanes.

The two male occupants of the tractor trailer received minor injuries, were checked by medical staff and released. The one male occupant of the West bound motor vehicle, Michel MURPHY age 51 of Marathon, died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The male driver of the tractor trailer, Vishal VADEHRA, age 31 of Brampton was arrested and charged for the Criminal Offence of Dangerous Driving causing Death. VADEHRA was released and is to appear in Marathon Criminal Court on May 5, 2011 in regards to the charge.

The OPP are continuing their investigation regarding this collision.
