Suspect arrested by Greenstone OPP after attempt to flee

GREENSTONE, ON On March 25, 2011 at approximately 3:40 pm members of the Greenstone Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Highway # 11 near the Long Lake # 58 First Nation. 

The 35 year old male passenger from Long Lake # 58 First Nation was found to be in breach of an order issued by the court.  While standing outside the vehicle the male was advised by police that he was under arrest and he then fled the scene. 

Following a short foot pursuit by police the male was apprehended. After taking him into custody it was determined that he had sustained an injury.  He was immediately transported to the Geraldton District Hospital in a police cruiser.  After receiving medical attention the male was released back into police custody.

The province’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has been notified and has invoked its mandate.  Further inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
