Thunder Bay’s Dance Dynamics Clean Up at U.S. Competition

Congratulations to members of Dance Dynamics Studio who recently took top honours at two Celebration Talent competitions.

The 1st competition in Minneapolis March 5 saw the studio’s Intermediate, Senior and Advance dancers along with a few juniors; proudly represent Thunder Bay taking many of the top awards.  Some of these were the Life of the Party Award  presented to the studio with the best attitude and overall team spirit.  Our advanced jazz group, consisting of Angelica Migliazza, Emma Dubinsky, Caitlund Davidson, Meagan Ellis and Jessica Taylor won the 1st Overall – Senior Group with a score of 290 out of 300.  Angelica was also the recipient of several awards one of which was the Judge’s Choice Award for Outstanding Senior Soloist and she and Emma were 1st Overall for Teen Duo/Trio. 

The intermediate musical theatre group was 1st overall for the Junior Small Group Shining Star as well received a Show Stopper Award.  Dancers in this group were Madison Smodis, Jade Erickson, Allana Tittaferrante, Emma Hamilton, Darrah Beebe, Cyndel Hawryluk and Kristen Spanninga.

Other 1st Overalls went to Chynna Erickson, Petite Solo Shining Star; Olivia Smodis, Petite Solo Rising Star; and the Advanced Acro group (Emma, Angelica, Caitlund, Madison, Jade and Chynna) for Teen Small Group Shining Star.

Other dancers who attended from the studio were Gina Tozzo, Ashley Spivak, Taylor Prouse, Ali Dubinsky, Eija Peuhkuri, Ashley Luxton, Cassidy Jose, Adrienne Spivak and Crissy McKay.  These dancers were also the recipients of many placement awards such as Gold (260-274.9/300) for their lyrical, hip hop, jazz, musical theatre and tap routines. 

The 2nd competition was in Duluth March 12, with the studio’s Beginner, Pre-Junior and Junior groups and a few intermediate dancers.  Again they represented Thunder Bay with pride following in the footsteps of their studio peers bringing home more top awards.

Madison and Jade continued to shine from the previous weekend winning the Overall High Score for all Petite and Junior Shining Star entries with their jazz duet. The Large Hip hop Group won Overall High Score for all Petite and Junior Rising Star entries; the dancers in this number were Isabella Jedruch, Olivia Smodis, Madeline Coppock, Evee Hamilton, Shannon Macleod, McKenna Zweep, Tayha Levenne, Brenna Prouse, Mikaela Ward, Sadie Cameron, Mariah Meredith, Franca Neill and Mackenzi Harris.

Shannon was the 1st Overall Petite Solo Shining Star and Sadie was 1st Overall Petite Solo Rising Star.

Other 1st Overalls were won in the Small Group Shining Star category by Chynna, Madeline, Evee, Shannon, McKenna, Tayha, and Brenna with their jazz routine and in the Small Group Rising Star category by Mariah, Sadie, Isabella, Evee, Madeline, Shannon and Tayha with their acro routine.

Both competitions were adjudicated by 4 judges from across the United States.  Marks were tabulated by adding the top 3 scores together.  Dancers received individual critiques from all 4 judges.   Overall between the 2 competitions the studio entered 80 numbers bringing home 45 of the top awards.  The dancers were accompanied by teachers Wendy and Melissa Holmquist and many family members.

After a short break Dance Dynamic dancers will gear up for the Lakehead Music Festival April 6-10 and then the whole studio buckles down and prepares for their year end recital May 18 at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium.
