MANITOUWADGE, ON – Saturday, December 10th holiday cheer was the order of the day at the Recreation Centre as Community Services Programmer Shawna Patterson had planned a day full of events for young and young at heart.

The fun began at Noon in the Rec Auditorium where Patterson had crafts and games for little ones along side the Nursery School’s fundraising lunch and OntarioNewsNorth.com’s Photos with Santa fundraiser for the Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group.  The events were very well attended, the auditorium buzzing with excitement well passed the original 3pm end time as children waited patiently in line for their opportunity to have a photo taken with Santa and to speak to him about their holiday wishes.  Santa had his ‘magic bells’ on hand , encouraging each young friend to close their eyes tightly and make a wish, Mrs. Claus also had a special treat for visitors – each received a candy cane which put smiles on the faces of even the most camera or Santa-shy children.

Later in the evening, families returned to enjoy the Community Christmas Skating Party, admission – a non-perishable donation for the food bank. A seemingly endless supply of hot chocolate, with marshmallows of course, was available to help skaters warm-up though with unseasonably warm temperatures outside none were very cold.  In the arena, Christmas music filled the air, the ice lit up with Christmas lights and a giant snowman who looked over benches for those who needed a break – the scene was reminiscent of old-time skating on the lake or in backyards and all seemed to thouroughly enjoy themselves.

Patterson thanked all those who assisted in the events and of course attendees who made the afternoon and evening events a hit and generously gave to the non-profits involved.
