New EDO Sets the Bar High at Regular Town Council Meeting

MANITOUWADGE, ON– Wednesday, December 14th, regular meeting of Town Council was held at the Township Council Chambers.  All council members, Mayor John MacEachern and Clerk Cecile Kerster were at the table as well as department heads Anthony Friedrich (EDO) and Owen Cranney (Fire Chief/Airport Manager) who each presented to council.  There were also 1/2 dozen audience members when council began its meeting – a rare occurence in Manitouwadge.

In addition to it’s regular LIVE Broadcast of Manitouwagde Town Council on the site, OntarioNewsNorth.com also provided a stream embeded on it’s facebook group page where a link was posted on the wall to quicly bring potential viewers to the livestream.com/OntarioNewsNorth tab.  Traffic results from the additional viewer on Facebook have yet to be collected though whether the additional location for viewing council would be permanent will depend on more than just numbers, advertisers would need to be comfortable with doing so as well.

During Wednesday’s meeting, Fire Chief/Airport Manager Owen Cranney presented his quaterly report to council, this included a large amount of very interesting information regarding Airport repairs following the June 28th windstorm and preventative measures put in place afterwards to ensure the situation which followed the gale force winds, where among the damage was a major issue when phone lines were knocked out at the airport, could not re-occur should similar conditions arise at the airport again in the future.  This is just a hint of the information Cranney provided which also included details of how planning for the new hangar sheduled to be built Spring 2012 is progressing among other Aiport and Fire Department related summaries.

Council seemed pleasantly surprised that new EDO Anthony Friedrich also had a quarterly report to submit (in spite of beginning as EDO  just 3 weeks ago) which was incredibly thourough and a very clear look what Friedrich’s  work has consisted of thus far as well as his plans for the Township’s Economic Development going forward.  Short term plans included the need for Northern Communities Investment Readiness program funding which required that Freidrich compile a significant amount of research and provide documentation as required by the application by the program’s deadline just 2 days after his arrival – those in attendance at the council meeting were quite aware, no doubt, of the incredible work that had to have been done to accomplish such a task  approximately 48 hours after first sitting at his desil  Mr. Friedrich has consequently set the bar quite high in regards to what will now be considered acceptable standards of competence, not only for himself but for his new colleagues (perhaps even council) as well!

There were a number of other items addressed by council during the meeting, including Clerk Cecile Kerster’s reminder of the cancellation of the next regularly sheduled council meeting which was to take palce on the 28th of December but has been rescheduled.
