MANITOUWADGE, ON – Tuesday, April 10th Our Lady of Lourdes School students in Junior and Senior Kindergarten with their teacher Mrs. Milks, helpers and a couple of parents went for an walk on the Ducks Unlimited Perry Lake Trail to see what signs of Spring had begun to appear.

There were many signs to see, a pile of freshly cut wood that a neighbour had in their yard which would dry until next winter when firewood will be needed to warm homes again, a last bit of melted snow in the shade of the forest where the sun has not yet shone in, some ducks on the lake which they saw from the furthest part of the trail they reached, birds that have returned from their winter migration, and of course, pussy willows which Mrs. Milks collected for students to bring home at the end of the day.

There were smells and sights all around, the day quite ideal for their walk, neither too warm nor too cold. Everyone walked in single file pausing now and then to observe nature or for Mrs. Milks to give them a closer look at the branches she was collecting along the way.  It was a great morning walk enjoyed by all and everyone seemed to find it interesting to note what had changed since they had been along the same trail to put out bird feeders in the winter.

Mrs. Milks encourages parents to check the calendar she sends home at the beginning of each month as there are always fun and interesting activities happening in the JK/SK class in which the parents are welcomed to participate.  If you would like to learn more about the signs of spring the students saw, and your child is in the JK/SK class, take him or her for a walk on one of the many trails around Manitouwadge and they will no doubt explain all the sights, sounds and smells you observe and how they are showing us summer is on its way.
