4th Annual Kids Fishing Derby in Nipigon

NIPIGON, ON – Nipigon’s men and women in blue will be helping kids cast a line this spring during the

4th Annual Kids Fish Derby, Saturday, May 12th 1-5pm Nipigon Marina Dock

The event, which is free for children and youth of all ages, will run from 1 pm to 5 pm at the Nipigon Marina dock area. Following the fishing fun, there will be a weigh-in and awards presentation where each participants will receive a prize. A free barbeque with hot dogs and beverages will be provided at no cost.

In the past, Kids Fish Derbies have been huge successes, drawing over 100 participants from the Thunder Bay district each year. This year, Parks Canada and the local fire department will be on site with stickers and giveaways.

Sponsors include Fishing Forever, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding worthwhile fishing, conservation and education projects, the Police Association of Ontario, Canadian Tire, Nipigon Red Rock Policing, Ontario Power Generating Plant, Triple T Enterprises – Ken & Debbie Plemel, Zechners Food Mart, Nipigon Husky, Classic Cut – Winnie & Ron Salo, Kovacs Contracting – Butch & Joanne Kovacs, Elliott Funeral Home Ltd. – Linda & Peter Elloitt, Nipigon Rotary Club, Hole In The Rock Creations – Roland & Elvie Choislet, Nipigon Gazette, Nipigon Elks, Foulds Pharmacy, Hard Core Fishing, Red Rock Fish & Game Club, Nip-Rock Plumbing and Heating, SNL Adult Learning Centre, and Saunders Foodland.

Fishing Forever chair Bob Izumi is an avid supporter of recreational fishing for both the young and the young at heart. “I love to create opportunities for children and families to go fishing,” states Izumi. “Fishing is one of the very best ways for parents and other adults to establish productive and healthy relationships with children.”
