With May here we all tend to say goodbye to winter and welcome summer and the activities that come with those warm sunny days. Activities may include boating, riding our quads, bicycles, roller blades, swimming and a variety of water sports. No matter what the activity take time to ensure you are doing your best to stay safe.

This week OPP will review a few of the activities in an effort to ensure we all have a safe, enjoyable summer season.

Walking to school:

  • Walk on the side walks
  • If no sidewalks walk on the side of the roadway facing traffic flow
  • Remember not to talk to strangers if approached – tell a parent or teacher

Skate boarders / Roller blades:

  • Respect person walking on the sidewalks
  • Do not skateboard or roller blade in the middle of the roadways
  • Helmets are always a safe option

Driving in school zones:

  • Drivers be alert to activities of kids especially in school zone
  • Drivers remember – fines are increased in school zones

Kids be cautious when playing near or crossing roadways

  • Expect the unexpected – be aware of school bus activity

Parents take time to remind your kids of safety rules while walking to school or playing near roads and parking lots.
