DOGS RUNNING AT LARGE SUPERIOR EAST

WAWA, ON – Recently the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment has received several complaints regarding dogs running at large. The complaints are in reference to persons walking their pets off of a leash and pet owners that are failing to tie up or contain their dogs to their properties. The OPP would like to remind pet owners that it is an offence under the Municipalities By-Law to allow your dog to run at large as is walking your dog off of leash.

The Dog Owners’ Liability Act states that the owner of a dog is liable for damages resulting from a bite or attack by the dog on another person or domestic animal. Under this act the owner may be charged if the dog has bitten or attacked person or has behaved in a manner that poses a menace to the safety of persons or domestic animals. Keep in mind that not everyone is a dog lover and there are some individuals that have a fear of these animals.
