Superior-Greenstone DSB September 2013 Principals and Vice-Principal Appointments

MARATHON, ON –. The Superior-Greenstone District School Board is pleased to announce the following administrative appointments effective on August 19, 2013.

Manitouwadge High School

Manitouwadge Public School

Annik Brewster has been appointed as Principal at Manitouwadge High School and Manitouwadge Public School. Ms. Brewster holds her Principal Qualifications and has a Bachelor of Education and Honours Bachelor of Arts (English) from Lakehead University. She also holds qualifications in Junior and Intermediate Division, English, Cycle Primaire and Intermediate History. She has completed numerous additional qualifications including Part 1 of Special Education and French as a Second Language, an Honours Specialist in English as well as Religious Education and she has completed Part 1 and 2 in Religious Education. Teaching in Manitouwadge since 2006, she is familiar with the community. She had been temporary Principal at the school since February this year. Ms. Brewster is a dedicated and inspiring educational leader who supports academic growth and success of all students by fostering and encouraging self-confidence. She strives to instill lifelong learning in combination with cultivating the partnerships between home, school and community.

Erica Cotton has been appointed as Principal of both the Marjorie Mills Public School in Longlac and the Beardmore Public School. Ms. Cotton who began as a teacher in the Nakina Public School in 1990 received a Bachelor of Education, Junior Intermediate History from the Lakehead University after earning a Bachelor of Arts Specialized Honours (History) degree from York University. She holds Principal Qualifications from Lakehead University and has acquired additional qualifications from Queen’s University in Kindergarten studies and Mathematics/Specialist. In addition, she also holds Primiary Qualifications from Nipissing University and has taken Part 1 Special Education and Reading Specialist Part 1 and 2 from Lakehead University. For the last two years, Ms. Cotton has performed dual duty has VicePrincipal at B.A. Parker Public School and Geraldton Composite High School.

Shelley Gladu will be the new permanent Vice-Principal at Beardmore Public School, having served as acting VP this last school year. Ms. Gladu, whose teaching career spans 13 years, earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree Physical Education/Science and a Bachelor of Education from Brock University. She completed the Principal Qualifications program in 2010 and has additional qualifications including, Computers in the Classroom Specialist and Special Education Specialist (Learning Disabilities) from Lakehead University and Primary Part 1 which she earned at Queen’s University. Ms. Gladu also has extensive experience as Special Education Resource Teacher and Consultant with the Ontario Provincial Demonstration School in Milton, Ontario.

Two temporary Vice-Principal appointments include Linda Stepien and Kellie Wrigley.

Linda Stepien begins as temporary Vice-Principal at Lake Superior High School in Terrace Bay effective August 19. A teacher for seven years coupled with four years as a Secondary Literacy Teacher, Ms. Stepien possesses a Master of Education, a Bachhelor of Education degree with junior, intermediate and senior qualifications and an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Lakehead University. She holds additional qualifications in Special Education Part 1 and 2, Religious Education Part 1 and she has completed the Honour Specialist English program at Lakehead. She is currently enrolled in the Principals Qualification Program. Ms. Stepien believes that increased student achievement is linked to setting goals, sharing of best practices, analyzing data and providing a caring, accepting community for students.

Kellie Wrigley will assume the duties as Vice-Principal at George O’Neill Public School (Nipigon, ON). Teaching full-time for more than a decade at the school, Ms. Wrigley came to Superior Greenstone with a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University. She has additional qualifications in Special Education Part 1, 2 and 3 and she has also completed Part 1 Reading from Lakehead University. Among her various professional portfolios with Superior-Greenstone DSB, Ms. Wrigley has worked as a critical coach with a focus on instructional strategies and oral language and applied herself to the area of Student Work Study Teacher/Numeracy Facilitator. Currently, she is completing her Reading Part 2 and 3 qualifications and will attend the Principals Qualification program thereafter. Ms. Wrigley holds the philosophy that, while school should be exciting and enjoyable, it must also provide a platform for exploration and enhancement of student confidence, curiosity and innovation.

The Board of Trustees, along with Senior Administration congratulates all its new school administrators and wishes them the best in their new leadership roles.
