MANITOUWADGE, ON – Saturday, October 26th, volunteers at the Manitouwadge Food Bank reported being overrun by costumed do-gooders; witches, comic book heroes, ghost moose, apostles and other biblical characters, skeletons, animals and many others in spooky and not-so-spooky disguises. Non-perishables “appearing” by the bag-full and shelves that were bare just hours earlier “suddenly” filled to capacity with donations.  An early Halloween haunting? No, just the 4th Annual Manitouwadge Trick or Eat.

Nearly 50 volunteers visited homes collecting non-perishable donations for the food bank. Food, toiletries and other non-perishables valued at approximately $4500, plus gift-cards and $100 cash donation were received. Organized, for the 4th year, by Natalie Labbee there were many yearly regulars who returned to volunteer as well as, new faces. Of course the tireless volunteers of the food bank were also on hand, relieved to have the shelves, which were practically bare following the demand of Thanksgiving, stocked once again though they remind everyone that the need is always present. Winter months can be especially challenging as many people living on fixed incomes must decide between heating their home and purchasing groceries.

Labbee and the food bank volunteers thanked all those who participated by canvassing, driving and giving donations.

Great job Manitouwadge!
