THUNDER BAY, ON – December 1st, after 2 days of stops along the Northshore at Dubreuilville’s Franz Station, White River, Pic Mobert, Heron Bay, Marathon, Schreiber and Nipigon, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train stop in Thunder Bay.  The first special guest to emerge from the train to squeals and screams of delight, was Santa Clause. Santa greeted children of all ages, offering candy canes from his bag as he made his way through the crowd of hundreds.  Meanwhile, the stage, which is actually the wall of one of the cars of the holiday train, was opening.

The train had been slightly delayed at several stops along the West side of the Northshore Saturday. Schreiber Mayor Don McArthur who rode on the holiday train from Marathon to Schreiber confirmed that it had arrived in his community approximately 60 minutes late though residents who had braved the cold to attend gave generously to the food bank as they enjoyed the show led by Juno Award Winner Melanie Doane.

In Thunder Bay, attendees were a bit disappointed to learn of the train’s delay, however most waited it out and any disappointment they might have originally had disappeared instantly as the train arrived, lights shining as Christmas music blared from the exterior speakers announcing it’s arrival. On stage, Melanie Doane was joined by Crystal Shawanda, the pair putting on a great show with the CP Holiday Train 2013 band as the audience, clapped, sang and danced along.

About 1/2 way through the show, a CP representative invited City of Thunder Bay Mayor Keith Hobbs and Regional Food Distribution Association of Northwestern Ontario representative, June Gonn to the stage.  Mayor Hobbs took the opportunity to thank CP Rail and all those volunteering and working on the train as well as all those who had braved the cold to attend also reminding everyone to have safe and happy holidays. RFDA Northwestern Ontario Representative June Gonn accepted a check from the CP Holiday Train for $13,000.  Attendees were also reminded by the CP Holiday Train representative that all donations made online to Breakfast Clubs of Canada (CLICK HERE), until December 19th, would be matched by CP (over and above their donations to food banks with the Holiday Train) and that everyone snapping photos should visit the CP Holiday Train on their Facebook page (CLICK HERE) to enter the ‘Capture the Spirit’ photo contest for the chance to win some great prizes.
