Goose Droppings : Luncheon Fun, Olympics, Challenges of Winter & Dropping-In

wawa-winter-carnivalMy father always looked for a January thaw.  He seldom ever got it in the Ottawa Valley.  Being further north maybe a February thaw is more appropriate and probably just as elusive, especially in a winter like this one. And last Friday, February 14, 2014 wasn’t quite there although many of you did brave the day and come one out for our part in the Wawa Winter Carnival.

There was much to socialize at in conjunction with the carnival and we are happy that you did make the Wawa Goose Seniors Club Chili Luncheon a part of it.

Then there came the Olympics and so many of us turned into the perfect fans of all those strong, healthy, hard working athletes of the world and particularly of Canada.  We also tended to spend a lot of the time we had in front of the TV (or some other streaming device) with some reasons to groan or to cheer loudly.  Our close-to-home curlers are just about to start their gold medal game as I write this with the TV in the background. (So this may be either a real fast and short piece or a bit disjointed or both!)

At the Drop-In we have begun to get beyond both the winter distractions to our fun.  We played euchre (without the regular fans who watched the women win hockey gold instead!) and handed out prizes divided several ways because of the ties.  On Thursday, February 27 we will do cribbage and have room for at least four more players. We have started to collect the contents of the Easter Dinner Basket which will be someone’s to take home on April 17, 2014.  What are your traditional Easter goodies?  Can you let us know and give a sample to share?  Let us know by dropping in or calling 7394 in the weekday afternoon or a note to the executive at Box 66 or an e-mail to WawaCreedbed@yahoo.ca.   (I’ve got the right this time!)

And the pool table beacons to anyone interested in showing the world the results of your misspent youth. Or you can drop-in and try out the cues…developing a way to misspend your golden years!

Or just drop-in to socialize…there’s usually a jigsaw puzzle on the way or a pick up game of some crazy card game underway.  And you just might find something to read or someone to talk to there.
