Mourning Lionel ‘Benny’ Bégin

Lionel ‘Benny’ BÉGIN passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 1, 2014 at the Manitouwadge General Hospital at the age of 85 years.

Benny was born in Hearst, Ontario on December 5, 1928.  As a young man Benny worked various jobs before coming to Manitouwadge in 1957 where he worked at Noranada Geco for 35 years.  He retired as a shift boss in March 1992.

Benny was an avid fisherman and hunter but his passion was for picking blueberries.  Loving

father to sons Michel (Kris), Ron (Suzie) and Jacques, and daughters Nancy Phinney (Stan) and Louise Huff, as well as grandchildren Kerri (Derek) Favreau, Michelle (Jim) Clark, Ryan (Nina), Faren and Todd Bégin, Chantal (Steve) Rioux, Sandy (Eric) Renaud, Bobby and Ashley Bégin, Jordan and Jacob Bégin and Tyler Huff, as well as 13 great grandchildren.  Dear brother to Florence Maghalages, Bella Rayner and Yvette Tauzin.  Predeceased by his wife Germaine in 2009, brothers Fernand and Noel and sister Noella Soucy.

Benny was a kind and gentle man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  A visitation will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Friday evening (April 4) from 7:30 to 9:00 pm followed by a Funeral Mass on Saturday April 5, 2014 at 11:00 am with Reverend Lawrence Susai officiating.  Spring interment at the Manitouwadge Municipal Cemetery.
