TERRACE BAY, ON – Mayor and Council of the Township of Terrace Bay are proud to announce the purchase of a substantial amount of land in our community by the municipality. Over the past two years council, administration and legal counsel have been working hard to secure key pieces of land that we believe are vital to the continued success of our Township. We learned earlier this year that our offer had been accepted through the court monitored process and today the purchase has been officially completed. We have secured approximately 1,085 acres of property formerly owned by Terrace Bay Pulp Inc. that includes the Aguasabon Golf Course, Terrace Bay Airport, as well as a portion of vacant land that includes a significant amount of waterfront.

Township of Terrace Bay Mayor Jody Davis said “We are very excited about the completion of the purchase of this land. The golf course, airport, beaches and other property is crucial to the community’s success and ability to grow in the future. We feel this purchase enables the Township to explore future development opportunities including waterfront development. We look forward to working with Parks Canada (Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area), Ontario Parks (the Slate Islands Provincial Park) and the Thunder Bay Field Naturalists (CLICK HERE to learn how the TBFN worked to purchase the Terrace Bay Nature Reserve) in the development of partnership opportunities.”

Mr. Jon Hall, Chief Administrative Officer for the Township of Terrace Bay “This process began under the former CAO and I think his efforts combined with those of the current management team over the past year should be celebrated. Township administration has worked a very long time on this property purchase and the announcement today is definitely good news for the community.”
