Alzheimer Society announces new Speaker for Tbaytel Alzheimer Rendezvous

THUNDER BAY, ON – The Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay is thrilled to announce that Bill Carr, writer, actor and humourist, will be the special guest speaker and entertainer at the Tbaytel Alzheimer Rendezvous on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the Victoria Inn. 

Bill has been making people laugh at what’s trivial for over 25 years while helping them think deeply about what counts. Bill helps people see their world in new and exciting ways. His unique blend of humour and insight inspires laughter and consideration, offering his audience a fresh perspective on what they face everyday. At the root of all of Bill’s work is the use of humour to help people reflect on their own innate human nature and understand who they are in a greater social context.

The East Coast funnyman has performed on stages across the country. He has written and performed in numerous radio dramas and news programs for CBC and appeared on several movies and television programs, including a recurring role on The Red Green Show.

Mr. Carr said yesterday, “I am thrilled to be able to participate in this event for the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay, as part of a community caring for its own in a deep and healthy way. And bring laughter too!  I can’t wait to come play.”

The annual fundraising event sponsored by Tbaytel will also include a gourmet dinner, balloon raffle, silent auction, and the special Tiffany bracelet jewellery raffle.

“As one of our signature fundraising events, the Tbaytel Alzheimer Rendezvous is a crucial source of income for the Alzheimer Society.” said Alison Denton, Executive Director of the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay.  “The money we raise plays a significant role in the delivery of the programs and services we provide to the over 2,600 individuals living with dementia in the district of Thunder Bay, and we very much hope that our community come out and support us while also enjoying a very special evening.”

Founded in 1986, the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay is a charitable organization dedicated to alleviating the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. The Society offers support to people with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers; provides public education; promotes awareness in the community and funds research. Over 2,600 people in the District of Thunder Bay are currently living with dementia, and this number is expected to double within a generation. The Society depends on local support and donations, as the demand for our services continues to grow.
