NDP Press Liberals : Move Forward On Ring Of Fire

THUNDER BAY, ON – The NDP’s critic for Northern Development and Mines, Michael Mantha, said the job numbers for October 2014 released today, showing rising unemployment in Thunder Bay, is a clear indication that the Liberal government needs to move forward on the Ring of Fire.

“It’s clear from the rising unemployment rate in Thunder Bay that the Liberal government’s stalling on the Ring of Fire is failing the region,” Mantha said. “Every year that goes by without moving forward on the project means jobs are not being created in Thunder Bay and little in the way of stimulus for the economy in the Northwest.  The Liberals had seven years to get the project started and the effect of their inaction is starting to be reflected in the job numbers.”

The Thunder Bay unemployment rate rose from 4.9%to 5.1% in October.

“The Liberals should take this rise in unemployment as a wake-up call to take action on the Ring of Fire to get shovels in the ground and create much needed jobs for families in the Northwest.”
