MANITOUWADGE, ON – Royal Canadian Legion Branch 242 once again led Manitouwadge’s Remembrance Day parade with a colour guard which included the Legion, OPP and even a Brownie representing for the Girl Guides of Canada, leading students and teachers from the 3 local elementary schools; Our Lady of Lourdes, Manitouwadge Public School and École Publique Franco-Manitou,  as well as those from Manitouwadge High School.  The procession stopped at the community cenotaph where legionnaire Ron Sheppard laid the ceremony’s first wreath, pausing in reverence for a moment before saluting the cenotaph and then once again leading those assembled to continue on to the Recreation Centre where the ceremony would continue.

Tara Ruel was the Master of Ceremonies at the Rec Centre ceremony.  Those gathered paused for 2 minutes of silence, the national anthem and God Save the Queen were played and messages from Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes were read and Legion Padre, Pastor Peter Ruel led the assembly in prayer prior to laying of the wreaths.

After the ceremony everyone was invited to KG’s where the Legion shared refreshments.
