NORTHWESTERN, ON – November 9-14, 2014 Bruce Hyer, MP for Thunder Bay-Superior North and Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada hosted a series of town hall meetings throughout the region. Meetings were held in Thunder Bay, Nakina, Geraldton, Longlac, Schreiber, and Manitouwadge with varying numbers of attendees.

The meetings were an opportunity for residents to make their voices heard on the proposal by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization to transport and/or bury nuclear waste in Northwestern Ontario.  Several communities in the region are still active in the NWMO’s Learn More process including Hornepayne, Ignace, Schreiber, Manitouwadge and White River.  NWMO representatives were also in attendance at several of the meetings to answer questions relating to the proposed deep geological repository and transportation of used nuclear fuel.
