TERRACE BAY, ON – It was a busy Christmas season at Lake Superior High School this year! Students and staff were kept busy with a variety of activities during the last few weeks before Christmas.

We started off the activities with an awesome, high-energy pep rally to kick start the girls’ volleyball and the boys’ volleyball season. The Athletic Association organized a great event and the Stingers “made some noise” to support their teams!

Mrs. Costa’s HFA 4C/4U class organized our annual food drive this year. Everyone worked together to raise over $70 and over 300lbs of non-perishable items for the local Harvest Cupboard Food Bank. Mrs. Costa’s class helped to host our first “Stuff a Cruiser” fundraiser.  The event was a huge success! Students paid to get out of class and sit in the OPP cruiser with Officer Mikey Costa. The students had a great time working the bells and whistles and we welcomed the opportunity to partner with local the Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police detachment to raise money for the local food bank.

Mr. Langlois cut out and assembled wooden Christmas crafts for the students to paint and decorate during lunch hour. The activity was free and the students were able to make festive decorations for their loved ones!

We also hosted our annual OPP VS Students floor hockey game. Our local Special Olympic Athletes were treated to a pizza lunch before they cheered on the players.  A pizza lunch and donations to attend the floor hockey games allowed us to donate $180 to our local athletes. Funds raised allow the athletes to train and travel to Special Olympic events. We all look forward to this friendly challenge!

Our Christmas activities would not be complete without our annual Christmas Breakfast Buffet. This  tradition allows our staff, students and family members to come together to share a wonderful holiday brunch. The event is hosted by the Lake Superior High School Breakfast Club.  The two main cooks are Ruth Lepp and Marlene McParland who are able to organize their elves and pull off an awesome Christmas buffet that we look forward to all year long! We also hosted a lunch time movie in the foyer complete with popcorn and S’mores! It was a perfect way to unwind and relax after eating all that big breakfast! Thank-you to Mrs. Commisso for providing and preparing the s’mores!

On the last day of school before the holidays, we also hosted our annual road hockey challenge and games challenge. The weather co-operated and the teams put up a good fight, but the winning team was Mr. Dube’s hockey team! Congratulations! The on-going Christmas trivia challenge was a fun time as the entire school competed for prizes donated by our principal, Ms. Patterson. We will have to start studying our Christmas trivia for next year!
