WAWA, ON – The girls and boys basketball tournaments hosted by the Rotary Club of Wawa were held March 10th. Several teams from the region participated including: École Saint Joseph, Sir James Dunn Public School and St. Joseph French Immersion School from Wawa; École Saint Nom de Jésus and Holy Name of Jesus School from Hornepayne; École St. Joseph from Dubreuilville; and Chapleau Public School and l’École Catholique Trillium from Chapleau. The competition was friendly, celebrating fun and sports!

The girls’ team from École St. Joseph (Wawa) won 1st place! Athletes played very well and tying 6 games. Coached by Ms. Jasmine Rosevear the girls distinguished themselves by staying motivated and alert throughout their games.

“The girls won the tournament thanks to their discipline and strong teamwork, I am very proud of them! I also want to congratulate all the teams which participated. We had fun!” said  Coach Rosevear.

École St. Joseph’s boys team claimed 3rd place in the tournament. “I am very proud of the team and their sportsmanship. They have represented the school well with exemplary behavior and good team spirit.” said their coach, Rene-Guy Norbert, who was assisted by Grade 11 student, Mr. Lorenzo Vacca.  Vacca originates from Italy and since arriving in Wawa, has been very involved in school sports as a player at École Secondaire St. Joseph and as a coach and referee for the elementary school.

École Saint Joseph is proud of the achievements of all its young athletes and congratulates all participating coaches and players who met this tournament’s challenges head-on demonstrating great skill and sportsmanship!
