MANITOUWADGE, ON – The community centre auditorium was a busy place to be April 2nd as parents, grandparents and children enjoyed the sights of Easter.  Best Start and the Township of Manitouwadge Community Services Department have partnered for the past four years to bring about the Easter Extravaganza for the community.

This year creative centres were displayed where children engaged in open-ended activities including flower painting, Easter egg dyeing and decorating, playdough creations and much more. Healthy snacks were available for purchase, estimation jars were placed to challenge the children’s guessing skills, and door prizes featuring Spring books to enhance literacy were given away. Face painting was a huge hit this year with the kids, thanks to our very artistic volunteers Kelly and Sarah Haliski. To end off the fun night, the children enjoyed an Easter egg hunt and all enjoyed a delicious bag of chocolate eggs.

We look forward to seeing everyone next year at our 5th annual Easter Extravaganza!

Family Math Canada

Seven parents and their kindergarten children enjoyed learning math in a fun, easygoing atmosphere this past February and March for six weeks as they participated in the Family Math Canada Program in the OLOL School Library.

This program is for children in Kindergarten and Grade 1, as well as their parent/caregiver, that focuses on the strands of math they are currently learning and reiterates the fact that MATH IS EVERYWHERE!

Some of the fun activities children got to engage in included patterning with rocks, blowing large and small bubbles, exploring with water, party hat toss and so much more. To finish off the six week session the students’ families all came and enjoyed a pizza supper together. We would like to THANK Cindy Fairbrother for volunteering her time and expertise with facilitating the program with Best Start this year.
