Make your opinion known at the Nipigon Bay Remedial Action Plan (RAP, or cleanup plan)  open house on May 7th. The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Nipigon Recreation Centre, 138 Wadsworth Drive, in Nipigon. A presentation about historic and current environmental conditions, completed RAP cleanup actions and ongoing environmental monitoring will be made at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge.

Questions, comments and concerns from the public are welcomed at the event. Public comments will be useful in determining next steps for Nipigon Bay. A potential outcome is to “delist” this Great Lakes “Area of Concern” where work to improve environmental conditions has been ongoing since 1987. If delisting takes place, Nipigon Bay would be the first Area of Concern on the Canadian side of Lake Superior to be delisted and one of only a handful delisted around the Great Lakes. A Nipigon Bay RAP Environmental Status Report will be made available to the public in conjunction with the open house.

The International Joint Commission will have a representative at the event joined by senior Great Lakes personnel from Environment Canada, representatives of the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.  These agency personnel will be available to answer questions and discuss concerns and comments.
