CHAPLEAU, ON – Last week, a number of Pastoral Committee students in the religious education course at École secondaire catholique Trillium took advantage of the nice weather to take part in the Sacré-Cœur de Chapleau church’s parish flower bed project. Father Sébastien Groleau built the bed during renovation of the church renovations and invited parishioners to plant their favourite flowers in it. Interested groups could select a section of the flower bed and then plant whatever they liked and be responsible for upkeep.

Guided by Mrs. Isabelle Perreault and relying on the expert advice of Mr. Louis Dubé, the Trillium students went to Mona’s Greenhouse and selected perennials that they would plant in the flower bed near the church. The youngsters greatly appreciated the help provided by both Mr. Dubé and Mrs. Mona Saari in choosing the best-suited plants for this type of project. ESC Trillium also thanks Mrs. Saari for her kind generosity in making a gift of the young plants and fertilizer. The students did the planting themselves under the watchful eye of Mr. Dubé and with his expert advice.

“It is important for us to encourage students to get interested and participate in this type of project,” explained Mrs. Saari.

This intergenerational community church beautification activity also provided the youngsters with a sense of belonging to their parish and their community.
