OPP Issue Warning For Ongoing Fraud Attempts

WAWA, ON – On July 2, 2015 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment were advised by several local citizens that they had received letters that they believed were money scams.  The letters were from different sources and varied in their attempts to defraud someone of their money. The frauds were not successful.
 
OPP reminds the public to be wary of letters, telephone calls and emails that seem too good to be true.  Do not give personal information over the phone or send money to anyone without confirming the caller’s identity and the validity of the information being provided.  If you do receive this kind of correspondence or want more information the OPP request that you contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre toll free at 1-888-495-8501.

If you suspect that someone you know has been a victim of a scam encourage them to report the incident to their local police service, for OPP please call 1-888-310-1122.
