MANITOUWADGE, ON – Weather was ideal September 12th, as the Manitouwadge Trappers’ Council hosted their Annual Community Field Day and Pig Roast.  The event, hosted by the council, local fur harvesters and their families, is a fun event open to the community, helping raise awareness of fur harvesting in our area while providing those unfamiliar with the activity an opportunity to learn more and have their queries answered in a fun, casual setting.

Afternoon activities were free to enjoy, and many people attend the alcohol-free event with families and friends specifically for the games and presentations. Those planning to enjoy the pig-roast at the end of the afternoon were required to purchase tickets in advance as preparing a delicious meal in the bush without running water or electricity is no small feat and organizers take pride in ensuring there is plenty of food to satisfy the appetites of 100 tickets holders). Complementing the roasted pig, which cooked on a spit teasing attendees with its delicious aroma throughout the afternoon, there were a plethora of sides and salads, finished off with delicious home made deserts.

Kids enjoy facing off during pillow fights in which two competitors (paired by approximate size and age) balance on a log trying to knock their opponent off with a pillow while being careful not to loose their own footing and remembering to swing below the waist to avoid disqualification.
