ESC Trillium Coyotes win NSSSAA basketball championship
Following a perfect season of play, the girls’ junior basketball team from Chapleau’s École secondaire catholique Trillium won the North Shore Secondary School Athletic Association (NSSSAA) in Manitouwadge on November 10. In the morning, the Trillium Coyotes defeated the Marathon High School Falcons in a tight game. Afterwards, they played their best game of the year in the final and defeated the Manitouwadge High School Wolverines by a score of 47 to 21.
“The Trillium Coyotes did not let the home crowd influence their game. The girls dominated all aspects of the game and limited all lapses at both ends of the court,” explained the Coyotes’ coach, Mr. Yves Boucher.
Following the start of the second quarter, the margin of points seperating the teams progressively widened. The final score was 47-21 in favour of the Trillium Coyotes. This impressive victory was followed by the presentation of gold medals to team players and a joyful trip back to their homes in Chapleau.
In our region, the NSSSAA is the highest level championship which a junior team can earn. This championship banner will be added to the two previously won banners: 2011- 2012 Girls Soccer and 2007-2008 Boys’ Junior Volleyball .
