Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes
ELLIOT LAKE, ON – A pilot project to help emergency workers identify people with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is an important step in making sure these people receive the best health care, according to Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing, MP, Carol Hughes.
Hughes delivered opening remarks at the North Shore Tribal Council’s Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder conference today. This was the second year in a row that Hughes addressed the conference.
“We’re seeing good movement on this issue with the introduction of this pilot project,” said Hughes. “This is great news for families and individuals looking for progress in how the medical establishment deals with FASD patients.”
Hughes says that quick identification will help with individuals who can’t communicate their condition.
“I am sure that these bracelets will be a useful tool for emergency workers and medical professionals,” said Hughes. “It will be especially important in emergency situations where quick decisions can have a big impact on the outcome.”
