ELLIOT LAKE, ON – As part of the social studies program, Grade 3 and 4 students at Elliot Lake’s École catholique Georges Vanier studied First Nations culture. Among items studied was the strong belief of First Nations in stories and legends told by the shaman. In his dreams, spirits were often represented as animals. In light of this belief, the heads of animals are often represented on totems. When concluding this social studies program, students built totems with the assistance of their teacher Mme Lynne Clément-Couillard.
