Return of Guiding Celebrated in Manitouwadge

MANITOUWADGE, ON – The 1st Manitouwadge Guide Unit, comprised of Sparks, Brownies and Guides, celebrated enrollment Monday, November 2nd, with more than 30 girls, plus 9 leaders, vowing to do and be their best while contributing positively to the world around them, to officially become members of the Girl Guides of Canada.
Guider-in-charge Carla Glaister-Richer, a.k.a. Brown Owl, co-hosted the ceremony with Guider Beth Beirworth congratulating each of the 10 new Sparks, 9 new Brownies and 12 new Guides, as well as their 7 fellow Guiders, with official handshakes and related unit pins. Guide Emeraude Hunter was presented with a 3 yr pin, as Richer recognized the youth having completed the Brownie program as a lone.
In addition to the girls reciting their promises, and the Guides sharing their Guide Law, the group sang a number of songs prior to inviting their family and friends in attendance to enjoy refreshments, cupcakes and fruits.
After nearly a decade without a unit, it is wonderful to see such a vibrant unit, led by dedicated Guiders, many of whom have fond memories of their involvment in Girl Guides as children to share with the girls.
“We want to share the amazing experiences and knowledge that we gained through Girl Guides with the younger generation” said Glaister-Richer of the Guiders motiviation to give their time as volunteers with the mixed unit adding “We feel that bringing back Girl Guides to Manitouwadge is a fabulous way to help prepare our girls for the future.”
