Barricaded Call Ends Peacefully in Wawa

OPPcolourWAWA, ON – On Monday June 6, 2016 at approximately 12:38 pm members of the Superior East Wawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident to a residence in the area of Spruce Street and Regina Crescent Wawa Ontario.

While at the scene the investigation revealed that the male occupant had barricaded himself and refused to surrender to police.

Due to the nature of the incident and the location the local schools were placed in lockdown.

Numerous resources including the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) Crime Unit and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) were responding in the attempt to facilitate a peaceful surrender of the male.

At approximately 2:25 pm after some negotiations the male surrendered to police and was taken into custody without further incident.

As a result a 27 year old male was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Adult- Forcible Confinement contrary to section 279(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Adult- Uttering Threats Cause Death or Bodily Harm- Spousal contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the C.C.C
  • Adult- Assault – Spousal contrary to section 266 of the C.C.C
  • Adult- Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to section 733.1 (1) of the C.C.C

The accused was transported to Sault Ste. Marie Ontario for Bail Hearing on Tuesday June 7, 2016.
