Emeraude’s LifeHacks: 5 Ways to Keep Warm Without Turning Up the Thermostat

It’s still winter, and the cold isn’t over yet! But using electricity or gas to stay warm isn’t great for the planet, not to mention your wallet. Here are some ideas to keep warm without using turning up the furnace:

  1. Wear a warm and comfy sweater! If you want a new one or don’t have one that’s super warm, you can find them at thrift stores for less than 5$! The one time purchase can help you keep the thermostat at a reasonable setting all winter long.
  2. Drink something warm! Hot chocolate , tea or coffee are just some suggestions, you can drink your favourite hot drink to keep warm or warm up if you’re feeling a chill.
  3. Eat warm soup! There’s a kind of soup for everyone’s tastes. I’m not a big fan of soup, but there’s 2 kinds of soup I could eat for every meal of the day: cream of potato and vegetable. Once you’ve found your soup you’ll want to enjoy it with lunch or supper throughout the winter.
  4. If sweaters aren’t your thing, wear a long sleeve shirt, OR find a thin zipper sweater at the thrift store. Another option for around the house is a small throw blanket. They’re comfy and cozy and keep you warm warm warm if you’re relaxing with a book, watching TV or doing any other activity which requires you being stationary which can lead to feeling chilly.
  5. If your around the house and are chilly, make sure you have socks and slippers on. This is a very simple thing you can do to keep your body heat in. (if you are interested in the science behind this, see the links below)

There are cool slippers for every style & purpose. I love slippers SO much, this Christmas I was gifted cool pairs from my Mom, and each of my 2 Grandmothers!

In conclusion there are many ways to be kind to the planet, and your wallet, by trying some of these life hacks instead of running to turn up the thermostat when winter temperatures have you feeling chilly.  Let me know in the comments below which of the suggestions above is your go-to way to warm up or share any other tips you have for keeping warm without turning up the furnace.
