Nipigon Traffic Investigation Leads to Drug Charges

NIPIGON, ON – On February 6, 2017 at approximately 2:50 a.m. Officers of the Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a disabled vehicle interfering with traffic on Highway 17, Corrigal Township.  Officers attended and determined the vehicle had run out of gas.

While speaking with the driver officers observed a bag of cannabis marihuana on the floor of the vehicle.  The driver was arrested.  A subsequent search of the vehicle located more cannabis marihuana, cannabis resin, cocaine and more than $5000 in Canadian currency.

As a result Christopher Ryan PLAYTER, 25 years old of Milton, ON is charged with the following offences:

  1. Three counts of – Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Cannabis Marihuana – under 3 kg contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  2. Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cannabis Marihuana -over 3 kg contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  3. Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  4. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 contrary to Section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.

PLAYTER has been remanded into custody awaiting a bail hearing.
