Crossover Video Blue Jays win B in Schreiber Classic

Friday, July 14th, the Crossover Video Blue Jays travelled to Schreiber to take part in the annual “Filane’s Classic Mixed Slo-Pitch Tournament” to meet and compete with Northshore neighbours from across the region.

Game #1 saw the Blue Jays matched up against the Pisscutters- a team consisting of players mostly from Schreiber. After a slow start to the game, the Blue Jays got their bats going resulting in an 18-15 win. Pat Bananish and Tyler Davis both hit Homeruns in the game.

Game #2 was a matchup vs the Superior Slammers from Nipigon and Lake Helen First Nation. The winds were blowing in strongly resulting in a low scoring game for the first few innings. The Blue Jays took an 11-10 lead into the 7th and final inning when the Slammers scored 3 to secure the 13-11 win.

With a 1-1 record, the Blue Jays ended up in the B Division semi-final against the Slugs from Schreiber. A bases clearing inside the park homerun by Kenny Portis started the momentum and the Blue Jays never looked back winning 17-5 behind a strong pitching performance from Tanya Desmoulin. Nathan Davis hit a homerun in the game.

The win against the Slugs meant a B division championship matchup vs the other Marathon entry in the tournament- the Jagerbombers. Behind some solid pitching from Kelly Michano, the Jagerbombers took an early 6-1 after 3 innings. The Blue Jays then turned the momentum with some key hits from Nancy Delay, Melissa McKinnion and Juanita Starr. Nathan Davis would also hit a homerun leading to a 15-8 victory for the Crossover Video Blue Jays.

In the A side Championship, the Plumbers from Schreiber defeated the Sluggers from Nipigon to capture the tournament championship. Congratulations to all those who competed, it was a fun tournament to compete in, well worth the short drive to Schreiber!
