MNRF Three-Day Enforcement Blitz On Lake Nipigon

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry laid 14 charges and issued 8 warnings during a three-day enforcement blitz on Lake Nipigon, Ontario.

From June 19 to 21, 2017, conservation officers from Nipigon enforcement unit checked 106 resident and non-resident anglers. Officers checked for compliance with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and the Ontario Fishery Regulations, with special attention to regulations that apply only to Lake Nipigon.

Charges and warnings were issued for:

  • fishing without a licence
  • fishing with too many lines
  • having an over-limit of fish
  • not using a barbless hook
  • using a line with more than one barbless hook
  • packing fish so that the species could not be identified
  • failing to produce a Crown land camping permit

Officers also laid charges and warnings under the Small Vessel Regulations for having insufficient personal flotation devices or life jackets onboard a vessel, and operating a vessel without prescribed safety gear.
