Thunder Bay OPP Investigate Serious Collision on Hwy 11/17 in Shuniah

THUNDER BAY, ON – On Friday, July 7, 2017 at approximately 3:07pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as well as Highway Safety Division (HSD) officers, Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI), Shuniah Fire and Emergency Service and Superior North Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a two vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of McKenzie Station Road and Highway 11/17 in the Municipality of Shuniah.

The driver of a Ford Edge was driving on McKenzie Station Road approaching the Highway 11/17 intersection, when the driver failed to stop at the stop sign. The driver entered onto Highway 11/17 and collided with an east bound Suzuki Swift.

The four occupants of the Ford Edge were transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. The three occupants of the Suzuki Swift were transported to hospital as well, two of the occupants remain in hospital with serious injuries.

Traffic was re-routed onto Lakeshore Drive as officers investigated the collision.

The investigation is continuing.
