Author Karen Connelly to host reading and workshop
Thunder Bay, ON –The Northwestern Ontario Writers Workshop is pleased to present two events with international award-winning author Karen Connelly.
The author of 12 books of poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction, including The Lizard Cage, Connelly will be reading from her most recent book, The Change Room, on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at In Common Restaurant and engaging with the audience in an honest conversation about writing and, specifically, writing sex.

Connelly said.
This is a free event made possible with funding support from the Canada Council for the Arts through the Writers’ Union of Canada.

Connelly will also be leading the workshop, “Writing the Sensual Body” on Saturday, Mar. 2. During the workshop, participants will explore elements of writing beautifully and candidly about sex, how readers react to it, and why it can be so challenging.
“How do we dare to write the vulnerable and sensual body?” “With sensitivity, humour, and trademark courage, this workshop will take us on a guided tour of doing it.”
Connelly said.
The workshop will also address handling traumatic body memory with care. A cross between a creative writing and creative wellness workshop, it will incorporate some physical grounding and meditation techniques.
The “Writing the Sensual Body” workshop will be held on Saturday, Mar. 2 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Waverley Resource Library and preregistration is required. The cost is $10 for NOWW members and $40 for non-members. For more information and to register, visit www.nowwwriters.ca.
