Snowmobilers Rescued By Helicopter

THUNDER BAY, ON – On February 17, 2019 at approximately 12:01 p.m., officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a male and female who were stranded on Moose Lake.

Due to the deteriorating ice conditions, a rescue by MSV was not possible.

Officers from the North West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) attended the location with assistance from Wisk Air Helicopter and rescued the male and female.

A male and female were out snowmobiling when their motorized snow vehicle (MSV) became stuck in slushy ice conditions on Moose Lake, causing them to be stranded on the lake and unable to return to their camp.

Both were located in good condition, and no injuries were reported. They were transported safely to Thunder Bay.
