Inquest into the Deaths of Henry Meekis and Harold McDonald Announced

Dr. David Cameron, Regional Supervising Coroner for Inquests, announced today that an inquest will be held into the deaths of Henry Meekis and Harold McDonald.

Mr. Meekis, 58, died on December 23, 2012, and Mr. McDonald, 52, died on January 6, 2013, in separate incidents when their grooming machines broke through ice and fell into lakes in the Northern region. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.  

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding their deaths. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.

Details regarding the date and location will be provided at a later date when the information becomes available. Dr. Michael Wilson will preside as inquest coroner. Jana-Rae Dewson and Rolando Aguilera will be counsel to the coroner.
