Superior-Greenstone DSB Appoints School Administrators and System Leads

MARATHON, ON– Exciting changes in staffing are in the works at Superior-Greenstone District School Board. After an intensive recruitment drive over the course of the summer, the school board has announced a number of appointments to fill vacancies in administration at both the school and system level. The vacancies were the result of retirements and staff migration.

Deana Renaud, MSW, RSW: Mental Health Manager

Among the new hires, Deana Renaud has been appointed the Mental Health Manager for the school board. Renaud graduated from Laurentian University’s Masters of Social Work Program and also holds a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Manitoba. Renaud is a Clinical Social Worker with more than 12 years’ experience. She has dedicated her career to helping individuals and families gain insight into personal challenges and assist them in accessing necessary resources. Deana holds additional qualifications as a certified Case Manager, Greif Recovery Specialist, CBT Team Practitioner, Matrix Addictions Practitioner, Level One Trauma Counsellor, and Triple P Parenting Level 2 & 3 Practitioner.

Renaud stated that she is “excited to embark on this new adventure with SGDSB. I am looking forward to new collaborations that will positively influence the well-being of all students by building upon the foundations created by the dedicated staff and leadership at our board. Let’s have an epic year!”


Heidi Cloutier: Acting Vice Principal, B.A. Parker Public School

Heidi Cloutier will assume the role of Acting Vice Principal at B.A. Parker Public School for the 2019-2020 school year. Cloutier is a qualified principal who brings significant literacy knowledge to her new role.

The Director of Education Nicole Morden Cormier stated that Cloutier “has shown her dedication and passion for learning and leadership while working at the Geraldton Composite High School since 2001. She has demonstrated her commitment and knowledge through her position as Learning Lead, the coordinator of Superior-Greenstone DSB’s Summer Literacy Program, and most recently, through her role as Special Education Teacher.”

Cloutier looks forward to her position as Acting Vice Principal and “collectively working together with families, community and the staff of B.A. Parker Public School to continue to enhance student learning.”

Kathlyn Kennedy: Principal, Nakina Public School

Kathlyn Kennedy has been appointed as Vice Principal for Nakina Public School as well as Special Education VP for the Greenstone area. Her start in teaching began in 2009 as a classroom teacher in Migizi Wazisin Elementary School on Long Lake 58 where she took on an appointment as Vice-Principal/ Literacy Coach serving in this capacity for three years. Kennedy’s career with Superior-Greenstone DSB began as a classroom teacher at the Marjorie Mills Public School and then Student Work Study (SWS) Teacher /Numeracy Facilitator in the Greenstone area. Prior to her temporary leave, Kennedy was appointed to the role of Vice Principal of both Geraldton Composite High School as well as B.A. Parker Public School on August 22, 2016.

“As an administrator, I have the opportunity to grow by continuously being able to visit classrooms and learn alongside the educators and the children” stated Kennedy. “By continuously learning and taking risk, I strive to support the learning of all, through positive encouragement, respect and trust.”

Stephen Wilson, Principal Marathon High School

Stephen Wilson will assume the role of Principal at Marathon High School. Wilson previously held the role of Acting Vice Principal of both Geraldton Composite High School and B.A Parker Public School. Wilson has over 12 years’ experience as an educator having worked as a high school teacher and Learning Lead.

A former graduate of Marathon High School, Wilson stated he is “excited to return to the school and looks forward to building relationships with staff, students, their families, and the community. There are many great things happening at this school and I count myself lucky to be part of them.”

Director of Education, Nicole Morden Cormier stated that she is very pleased to welcome Deana Renaud, Heidi Cloutier, Kathlyn Kennedy and Stephen Wilson to the leadership team of school administration and system responsibility.

“Each of these individuals is highly qualified and have a skill set that will be valued both at the school and district level. They are well suited for their leadership roles with a demonstrated commitment to student achievement. Together we will continue to inspire our students to succeed and make a difference as we collectively operationalize our Multi-Year Strategic Plan.”

Superior-Greenstone District School Board welcomes all students back to class on September 4, 2019 for the start of the 2019- 2020 school year.
