Forest Fire Situation Update

West Fire Region

Saturday August 28, 2010

The forest fire hazard is high across northwestern Ontario.

There is one new fire today in the West Fire Region.

Thunder Bay Fire 60 is a small 0.1ha lightning caused fire burning on an island at Amik Lake north on hwy 527. All other fires in the Thunder Bay district are now out.

Red Lake Fires 45 and 46 were both completely extinguished by FireRangers before noon today.

Red Lake Fire 44 has minimal to no observed fire behaviour. FireRangers have contained the fire at 176ha. The fire will be scanned very early tomorrow morning with infrared technology that will indicate areas that are retaining heat. Once these hot spots are mapped crews will enter the burn area and seek out the hot spots and extinguish them using hand tools.
