RED ROCK, ON – Festival organizers are pleased to announce both the winning slogan and the lineup for the 9th annual Live from the Rock Folk Festival, to be held August 4-7, along the shores of Lake Superior in beautiful Red Rock, Ontario.

Over 100 extremely creative entries were received and it was a difficult decision. The slogan “Up in Folk”, drawing inspiration from the traditional campfire sing-a-long so popular at the festival, was selected.  Red Rock resident Isaac Harkness submitted the winner.  He will receive two weekend passes, and the annual theme and logo design will be based on his slogan.

The festival’s artistic director has finalized the lineup.  Jennifer Ives, who has graced the festival stage several times as a performer, agreed to step into the role for the 2011 event as founding artistic director Liz Harvey-Foulds is taking a much deserved vacation.

Ives is confident that fans will enjoy the line-up, which includes up-and-comers as well as established artists.

Local talent includes fiddle player Olivia Korkola from Thunder Bay, Binaeshee Couchie-Nabigon from Pic River First Nation, Don Charbonneau from Wawa and two bands from Thunder Bay, the Alaska Army Band and Dr. Buck and the Bluesbangers.

Several award-winning artists will take to the stage, including bluesman Jack de Keyzer (Juno and Maple Blues awards), children’s performer Andrew Queen (Indie Awards), and legendary folk artist Connie Kaldor (Juno award).

The festival will also feature performances from a crop of newcomers including the four-man band Harlan Pepper from Hamilton, the ultra-hip, all-female bluegrass quartet Oh My Darling from Winnipeg, and Vancouver’s Jaron Freeman-Fox, who has fiddled with many well known Canadian Celtic performers.

Other standouts include Kevin Breit who has played with Norah Jones, Cara Luft, an amazing solo artist who was a founding member of the Juno award-winning group the Wailin’ Jennys, and a rare Canadian appearance by the phenomenal songwriter Cheryl Wheeler. Scroll down for the complete line up.

Festival passes will go on sale on May 1st and will be available from Colosimo’s Music (in person or over the phone) in Thunder Bay, Rexall Pharmacy in Nipigon and the QuickMart in Red Rock.

Updates on this year’s festival can be found on the official website or on the Facebook site.
