MANITOUWADGE, ON – The Township of Manitouwadge held its annual Easter Extravaganza yesterday evening (April 4th), at the Recreation Centre Auditorium, in partnership with the Family Place/Best Start Hub.  More than one-hundred adults and children of all ages enjoyed a variety of Easter crafts, delicious snacks, face painting artists, a visit from a very special guest  and a play area for the preschoolers and infants all of which thoroughly entertained  attendees leading up to the outdoor Egg Hunt to wind-up the festivities.

Crafting and snacking tables were organized assembly-line style, the latter presented by the Best Start Hub, included fresh popcorn or fruit cups to purchase and refreshments; at the crafting area choices included; colouring pages, bunny masks, paper egg collages and ‘Easter bags’ which would come in handy during the hunt.  Children’s creativity was sparked as they chose from a variety of crafting accessories to decorate the aforementioned projects including giant shakers of glitter, foam pieces, pompoms, yarn and other supplies.  Talented artists ranged in age from preschoolers to senior elementary students, everyone sharing and enjoying themselves alongside each other while parents looked on proudly awe of their talents and friendliness.

Meanwhile, infants and toddlers were enjoying the balloons and toys at the toddler station when a rush of Ooh’s and aah’s erupted, announcing the arrival of a very animated Easter Bunny who greeted the children, taking the time to speak with each one while posing for photos that were being snapped from every direction.  He hopped about, patiently waiting for his younger friends to warm up to him.  It was speculated by older children that his mask likely meant he was an official Easter Bunny Assistant recruited from the floppy eared star, right from Manitouwadge!

Parents were thrilled that the Easter Bunny was in no hurry; he made his way around the auditorium several times ensuring he greeted every friend, gifting novelty mugs decorated with farm or forest animals to each and of course posing for photo after photo.  All the while a line was forming at the backdoor of the auditorium as Easter Bunny quietly bid adieu to his young friends and made a quiet exit.

Anticipation was quickly building as attendees prepared for the EGG HUNT to finish off the extravaganza.  A few words of advice in regards to egg hunting etiquette and the back door was opened and children and adults poured out of the auditorium onto the lawn adjacent to the community centre pool.  Chocolate Easter eggs hidden in the grass were quickly collected though manners were not forgotten as parents proudly watched many of the older kids sharing the eggs they had collected with littler ones who had not been quite as speedy.  In the end everyone seemed to find their share of the chocolate treasure.
