OPP ISSUE WARNING DO NOT PICK UP HITCHHIKERS – UPDATE

WHITE RIVER, ON  –The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East White River Officers were conducting radar patrol on Highway 17 south of White River.  A black 2003 Lexus GS 430 bearing Alberta marker BGM 4833 was recorded travelling in excess of 80 kilometres per hour of the posted 90 kilometres per hour speed limit.  The driver left the highway onto a gravel road and travelled 4 kilometres before attempting to hide the vehicle in the bush.  The OPP located the vehicle and conducted a high risk take down to remove the occupant.  The driver was removed and arrested without incident.  The driver, 22-year-old Ahmad DAOUD of London, Ontario has been charged with the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act Offences;

  1. Dangerous Driving
  2. Flight From Police
  3. Drive While Under Suspension
  4. Stunt Driving

The accused is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.  The vehicle was seized for 7 days.  Please note that the vehicle was not stolen as previously reported.

Highway 17 between White River and Wawa

WHITE RIVER, ON  –The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East White River Officers are currently investigating an abandoned stolen vehicle on Highway 17 north of Hammer Lake.  The OPP requests that the public refrain from picking up hitchhikers along Highway 17 between White River and Wawa at this time.  Please report any suspicious activity and/or pedestrians observed in this area to the OPP immediately at 1-888-310-1122.  Further details will follow when more information is available.
