CAROL HUGHES STATEMENT ON THE STATE OF EMERGENCY IN WAWA

Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MPP Carol Hughes

ELLIOT LAKE, ON  –  The state of emergency declared by the Municipality of Wawa and surrounding area is a shocking illustration of how we are often at the mercy of nature, says Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing, MP, Carol Hughes.

“This is a dramatic development that will require a strong response,” said Hughes.

Hughes indicated that she has already begun advocating for Wawa and anticipates the response will require input from all levels of government.

“I have touched base with the Prime Minister’s office to alert them about the state of emergency, “said Hughes.  “I will work with my municipal and provincial counterparts to ensure that the people of Wawa receive the best response in their time of need.”

Hughes said the focus has to be on getting this vital link of road repaired quickly and making sure that Wawa and the surrounding communities do not suffer in the interim.

“I want to extend a message of support to the people of Wawa and area to let them know that my office and I will be working diligently, advocating on their behalf,” said Hughes.
