Wawa Receives $25,000 Disaster Relief Donation

WAWA, ON– The Municipality of Wawa is very pleased to announce that on behalf of the impending Disaster Relief Committee, Mayor Linda Nowicki accepted a cheque “in trust” for $25,000 from the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters, UA Local 508 as represented by Norm Pascall, Business Manager / Financial Secretary. Mayor Nowicki stated; “these funds will be held in trust by the Municipality of Wawa in anticipation of the designation as a disaster area by the Province of Ontario. When such a designation occurs, the provincial funding may triple all amounts donated. These funds will then be used to assist those who have been affected by the recent flood.”

The Municipality of Wawa recently advertised for people interested in participating on the Disaster Relief Committee if the Province of Ontario should designate Wawa as a disaster area. The Municipality looks forward to the appointment of this Committee as soon as possible.

UA Local 508 is a construction trades union representing Plumbers, Steamfitters and Welders, and was Chartered in 1953. UA Local 508 is an autonomous local in the Province of Ontario and along with other UA Locals make up the Ontario Pipe Trades Council that represents 18,000 members.

The Municipality of Wawa will continue to receive any and all donations “in trust” for the affected residents. More information on how to donate can be obtained by calling Doreen Pavlic, Deputy Treasurer at 705-856-2244 (ext. 226).
