R.I.D.E. Check on Hwy 17 White River Results In Drug Charges

oppcolourWHITE RIVER, ON – April 18, 2014 at 12:30 am, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East White River Detachment were conducting R.I.D.E. checks on Highway 17 in the Township of White River.  At 7:43 pm a west bound Nissan Titan entered the R.I.D.E. area.

Investigation by the OPP officers led to the arrest of the two passengers, 24-year-old Christopher BANANISH of Pic Mobert First Nation and 22-year-old Kristi-Lee BURCH of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.

Mr. BANANISH stands charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine as per s. 4(1) of the Drug Controlled and Substance Act (CDSA) and with
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana as per s. 4(1) of the CDSA.

Ms. BURCH stands charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine as per s. 4(1) of the CDSA.

Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Wawa, Ontario at the Court of Justice on July 14, 2014.

As a result of this investigation OPP seized over 9 grams of Cocaine valued over $900 and over 135 grams of Cannabis Marijuana valued over $2700.
